The art of cutting fine crystal first began in Dublin in 1675, and in the year 1764 a Welsh family started a glass house that remained in production until 1827. By the beginning of the nineteenth century the trade was flourishing, but the imposition of crippling taxes by the successive English governments caused the entire Irish glass industry to cease production.
Fortunately, the tradition was never allowed to completely die out. With the setting up of Dublin Crystal Glass Co. (Ireland) Limited in 1968, Edward F. Taylor, father of the present managing director of the company, set about reviving the tradition in Dublin. Edward, alongside wife Rosaleen F. Taylor, and Pierce Keaveney started Dublin Crystal on May 13th, 1968. Martin Taylor took over as Managing Director in 1982 after the death of Edward. It is still very much a family business now, and you are likely to find even 3rd generation Taylor's on the premises. The company has grown steadily in the 45 years since its incorporation. It has gradually built a reputation for quality crystal and fine engraving which is second to none in the country. Dublin Crystal currently employs 9 people, from a peak of 36 when all crystal was cut on site.
Rigorous quality control rejects any piece that in any way fails to meet the standards of excellence that is expected. While remaining faithful to the traditions of the trade, the company has believed in making every possible use of technological developments and in the continual updating of its manufacturing processes.
A large proportion of the Dublin Crystal range can be engraved, and this process, called sandblasting, is a speciality. Dublin Crystal also offers a competitively priced laser engraving service - capturing your favourite photo in a beautiful crystal piece. Both processes work well to personalise gifts, as well as social, sports, and corporate awards. We also offer a crystal repair service - bring your damaged crystal back to life!
The company prides itself on its flexibility, short turn around times, personal service and quality.
